Implantology

Dental implants are a modern, long-term solution for replacing missing teeth, restoring stability, function and a natural-looking smile. The titanium implant is placed in the jawbone, where it replaces the root of the tooth and, after the process of osseointegration, serves as a stable base for a crown, bridge or prosthetic construction that replaces several or all of the teeth.

Treatment with dental implants is planned individually, based on a clinical examination, radiological diagnostics and an assessment of the patient’s general health.

When are dental implants recommended?

  • When a single tooth is lost, to replace the tooth with an implant and an individual crown.
  • When several adjacent teeth are lost, as a stable support for a bridge construction.
  • When one or both jaws are fully edentulous, to support fixed or removable prosthetic solutions, depending on the clinical conditions.
  • When a full denture is unstable, to improve retention, stability and comfort when chewing and speaking.
  • When functional and aesthetic rehabilitation is needed, to restore chewing function, the correct distribution of occlusal forces and a natural-looking smile.

Types of implant solution

Depending on the number of missing teeth, the condition of the bone and the patient’s individual needs, there are several implant solutions:

  • A single implant with a crown, to replace one missing tooth while preserving the neighbouring teeth and restoring function and aesthetics.
  • An implant-supported bridge, used when several teeth are lost, with the implants serving as support for a fixed prosthetic construction.
  • All-on-4, a concept for rehabilitating a fully edentulous jaw with a fixed prosthetic construction supported on four dental implants, when the anatomical and clinical conditions allow it.
  • All-on-6, a concept for rehabilitating a fully edentulous jaw with a fixed prosthetic construction supported on six dental implants, when the anatomical and clinical conditions allow it.

How the implant treatment works

Treatment with dental implants takes place in several stages, planned individually for each patient.

  • 1. Consultation and diagnostics, a clinical examination, a detailed medical history and a radiological assessment with a 3D CBCT scan.
  • 2. Treatment planning, the bone volume, anatomical structures and conditions for placing the implant are assessed, after which an individual treatment plan is drawn up.
  • 3. Surgical placement of the implant, the implant is placed in the jawbone under local anaesthetic.
  • 4. Healing and osseointegration, a period of 4 to 9 months follows during which the implant bonds with the surrounding bone, providing stability for the future prosthetic construction.
  • 5. Prosthetic stage, once stability and healing have been confirmed, the crown, bridge or full prosthetic construction is made and fitted.

The duration of treatment depends on the individual situation, the need for additional surgical procedures and the course of healing.

Frequently asked questions

Is placing an implant painful?

The implant is placed under local anaesthetic. During the procedure you should not feel pain, although you may feel pressure. After the procedure, temporary pain, swelling or discomfort may occur.

How long does it take for the implant to bond with the bone?

The osseointegration period varies depending on the bone conditions, the location of the implant and the individual healing process, and can take from 4 to 9 months. The prosthetic stage begins once suitable conditions for carrying it out safely are confirmed.

Is every patient a candidate for dental implants?

Not always. Suitability for implant treatment is determined by a clinical examination, a detailed medical history and radiological diagnostics. In certain cases, prior preparation of the bone or stabilisation of certain health conditions may be needed.

How long do dental implants last?

With proper planning, good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, implants can serve for the long term. Their longevity depends on several factors, including general health, maintenance and the condition of the surrounding tissue.

How much does an implant cost?

The price depends on the number of implants and the type of restoration. See the price list or ask for an individual quote.
